Occupational Summary

Performs varied tasks of a complex nature within a library setting. Exercises independent judgment in the application of guidelines to specific library operations and services and the performance of daily activities. Requires broad knowledge of library practices and procedures.

 

Work Performed

  • Performs tasks in a variety of areas supporting the operations of the library.

 

  • Coordinates the Divinity Library’s scan and deliver service, supporting Divinity Hybrid students, Divinity faculty, and the wider Duke community. Serves as the Divinity Library’s primary contact with Duke University Libraries Inter-Library Request department for scanning requests.

 

  • Processes incoming periodicals for the Divinity Library and sends completed years for binding. Serves as the Divinity Library’s primary contact with Duke University Libraries Electronic Resources and Serials Acquisitions department. Coordinates other incoming and outgoing mail for the Divinity School.

 

  • Coordinates large print and copy requests for Divinity faculty and staff.

 

  • Applies established guidelines to accomplish tasks and to solve problems. Exercises independent judgment in the application of guidelines to library operations and services.

 

  • Responds to requests/issues that deviate from standard operating procedures by determining and consulting appropriate resources such as policies, manuals, or other staff.

 

  • Records, compiles, and summarizes data using established formats.

 

  • Performs simple and complex operations using the library's technology and materials.

 

  • Explains and interprets programs, policies and procedures to meet the specific needs of clients/patrons.

 

  • Performs office support tasks.

 

  • Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

 

Education

Requires two years post-secondary education or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

 

Experience

  • Required: Requires one year of library experience to obtain a specialized knowledge of library systems and procedures; excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; able to work independently and as a member of a team; demonstrated proficiency using computer-based technology and ability to adapt to new technologies; ability to effectively organize and prioritize daily work; demonstrated commitment to providing outstanding customer services. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

 

  • Preferred: Prior experience working in an academic research library, particularly a theological library. Prior experience with library software involved in processing circulation transactions and current periodical arrivals. Prior experience fulfilling scanning assignments.

 

Working Conditions

  • Must be able to lift 40 pounds and push loaded book trucks
