👩‍💻 The Role 

Location: While this position is posted in a specific location, all of Oyster’s positions are fully remote, and you can work from home. Forever. To create the best experience for our new hire (you?!), this role does require that you be based within UTC +2 to UTC -4. 

Oyster is growing fast, and its Legal team needs help! We are looking for a high-performing Legal Specialist to join our team who can assist in keeping up with the demands of a growing global HR/tech company. In this role, you will be working with members of the Legal Team’s Employment Pod, primarily handling all things related to the creation and maintenance of employment templates as well as employment compliance, which will require critical thinking, innovation, and integrity. You will also work cross-functionally on projects to help Oyster reach its goals.

Being a fully distributed company, the Legal Specialist will work synchronously and asynchronously with team members all over the world. We are looking for someone with wonderful attention to detail, strong multi-task skills, high energy, a positive attitude, and no camera shyness.

What you'll do…

Reporting to the Managing Counsel of the Employment Standards team, the Legal Specialist will be tasked with:

  • Contributing to processes for maintaining compliant employment-related templates and policies and assisting the Legal staff members in this process.
  • Tracking compliance requirements and assisting Legal staff members and other relevant stakeholders in finding appropriate solutions.
  • Assisting Legal staff members in developing knowledge materials and supporting cross-functional stakeholders to promote knowledge transfer.
  • Collaborating with internal stakeholders to ensure finalized documents are available for use, including being automated in Oyster’s contract management system.
  • Creating and maintaining legal team projects in Asana and other platforms.
  • Supporting employee relations escalations received via Oyster’s intake system, Zendesk, which will include responsibilities such as:
    • Assigning escalations to the appropriate Legal team member within the Employment Pod for handling based on internal guidance.
    • Working with our analytics team to support Zendesk data reporting.
  • Assisting with improving processes, sharing best practices, and increasing efficiency in the Legal department's operations, systems, and technology.
  • Working cross-functionally to fulfill Oyster's Mission and Vision.
  • Build and maintain solid relationships within the Legal department and with cross-functional departments.

Core Requirements

We are looking for someone who is bright, dynamic, and driven. The successful candidate will be able to handle any responsibility assigned and can work independently but is also not afraid to ask for help.

  • 1-2 years of experience as a paralegal, legal assistant, or in a corporate or HR environment.
  • Bachelor's Degree (or its equivalent).
  • Knowledge and experience with human resources, employment law and/or compliance-related matters.
