Job Description
AECOM has a position available for a Lead Transportation / Traffic Engineer in one of our Novi or Grand Rapids, Michigan office.
The growing transportation/traffic department is looking for an experienced individual who has a strong background in signing and pavement marking projects. Projects may include city and county localities and state transportation agencies and either freeway or non-freeway signing. This position is a combination of time spent in either the Novi or Grand Rapids office for colleague collaboration, as well as remote with the understanding that strong communication skills are needed to collaborate with the team and supervisors.
In this role the Traffic/Transportation Engineer will perform engineering tasks including field visits to verify existing signing and pavement marking, development of signing and pavement marking preliminary and final design plans, training of entry level and CAD technicians, review of plans, development/review of quantities, and internal/external meetings.
The responsibilities of this role include, but may not be limited to, the following:
- Perform engineering activities to support development of preliminary and final signing and pavement marking plans.
- Developing quantities based on the plans.
- Field work to verify existing signing and pavement marking compared to plans.
- Participates in discipline and interdisciplinary reviews of project deliverables.
- Performs quality control review of design calculations or drawings.
- Provides input to the development of engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements.
- Prioritize and schedule work activities, provide oral and written instructions.
- Communicate verbally and in writing in English with staff, clients and public.
- Provide oversight and training of lower level staff and CAD technicians.
- Excellent communication skills with project team, partners, agencies, and clients.
- Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with little supervision.
- Independently performs all the tasks necessary to complete primary design elements for engineering works.
- Capable of working independently or within a design team.
- Attend internal team meetings and client meetings and coordinate with diverse project teams.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- BA/BS + 4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
- Valid US Driver’s License required, as a condition of employment must pass AECOM's Motor Vehicle Records review.
Preferred Qualifications
- BS in Civil Engineering with 5-10 years of recent, relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
- Current Michigan Professional Engineer license or the ability to obtain Michigan PE license either through reciprocity from another state or pass the PE exam within one year.
- Experience in either non-freeway or freeway signing and pavement marking projects either at a City, County, or State Level
- Experience using Microsoft Office Suite of applications, Bentley MicroStation, AutoCAD, OpenRoads Designer and ProjectWise software applications.
- Experience with AASHTO and Michigan DOT transportation design policies and guidelines.
- Previous experience with freeway and non-freeway signing and pavement marking projects for Michigan DOT projects.
