Job Description:

As a Software Engineer Lead, you will play a critical role in driving success and innovation. Our work depends on a Software Engineer Lead joining our team to lead the development of tools and applications that support the dissemination and tracking of content to the desired audience. You will oversee the creation of content management tools, translation workflows, approval and publication systems, and tools for managing metrics, user comments, and feedback. This role requires technical leadership, collaboration, and a commitment to best practices in software engineering and system security.

HOW A SOFTWARE ENGINEER LEAD WILL MAKE AN IMPACT

  • Leads a team of software engineers who work with data engineers and data scientists to create web applications to collect and manage data in support of internet and social media activities.

  • Participates in Agile project management methodologies to support all aspects of the software development lifecycle (SDLC).

  • Works within a team environment using Confluence, Jira, and Slack to manage, assign, and collaborate on work tasks.

  • Develops web applications in Ruby on Rails or Django/Python on Linux and deploys them in AWS using MySQL and RedShift databases.

  • Reviews projects' ability to deliver robust and scalable solutions, learning and incorporating new technologies as appropriate.

  • Builds and operates scalable and secure systems on AWS.

  • Provides technical leadership and mentorship to software engineers, fostering professional growth and promoting best practices in coding, testing, and design.

  • Drives architectural decisions and ensures alignment with enterprise standards, scalability, and long-term maintainability.

  • Collaborates with product owners, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.

  • Oversees code quality through code reviews, automated testing strategies, and enforcement of development standards.

  • Ensures adherence to cybersecurity policies, data protection standards, and compliance requirements across all developed systems.

  • Leads incident response efforts and post-mortem analyses to continuously improve system reliability and operational resilience.

  • Champions DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipeline optimization and automated deployments.

  • Supports hiring, onboarding, and performance management of engineering staff, including conducting evaluations and providing feedback.

  • Supports testing to verify products against requirements.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS) or equivalent in Computer Science or related fields; significant experience may be accepted in lieu of degree.

Experience:

  • 6+ years of experience in software engineering.

  • 2+ years of leadership experience.

Security Clearance Level:

  • Must be able to obtain DoD SECRET clearance.

  • Current DoD SECRET clearance preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Technical leadership and mentorship skills.

  • Experience developing web applications in Ruby on Rails or Django/Python, deployed in AWS.

  • Proficiency with MySQL and RedShift databases.

  • Experience with Agile methodologies and collaboration tools (Confluence, Jira, Slack).

  • Strong understanding of scalable and secure system design on AWS.

  • Knowledge of DevOps practices, CI/CD pipeline optimization, and automated deployments.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

  • Ability to ensure compliance with cybersecurity and data protection standards.

  • Experience in incident response and system reliability improvement.

  • Ability to manage and evaluate engineering staff.
