Position Overview
We are looking for an experienced Lead Engineer to help us build a next generation social networking platform. Strong candidates should have experience or familiarity with building real-time communications infrastructure, enterprise-scale social media applications, and knowledge management systems (e.g. Obsidian). This role requires a deep understanding of contemporary social networking technologies and the ability to solve complex technical problems in the web development space.
Responsibilities
Contribute to the architectural design of an enterprise-scale social networking application with an emphasis on modularity and extensibility
Develop fast and reliable real-time communications and knowledge management software
Design scalable APIs and communication protocols between the core platform and integrated applications
Establish architectural guidelines and patterns for both the core platform and integrated applications
Document architectural specifications and development procedures
Integrate both first party and third party systems with a native single-sign on service system
Engineer data solutions that accommodate high-density information interfaces
Qualifications
8+ years of experience in software development
5+ years of experience with architectural decision making
Established track record of delivering on complex technical requirements
Experience building real-time communication systems
Experience with enterprise scale social networking architecture
Demonstrated track record bringing software projects from 0-to-1
Experience managing technical teams and developers
Technical Requirements
Knowledge of:
Real-time communication architectures
Social graph data modeling
Content delivery networks
Push notification systems
Activity feed implementations
Content moderation strategies
User and platform security schemes
Distributed caching strategies
Connection pooling and management
Experience or familiarity with:
RTC languages (Erlang, Elixir, Go, WebSocket)
High-performance languages (WebAssembly, Rust, C++)
React and modern frontend architecture (TypeScript, Next.js)
Backend development (Node.js, Python, or similar)
Graph databases (Neo4j or similar)
Redis or similar in-memory databases
Message queuing systems
WebSocket/WebRTC implementations
Cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP)
System monitoring and debugging
