Position Summary
• Responsible for providing clinical oversight of the staff at the Brain & Spine Institute including Neurosurgery, Neurology and Interventional Pain.
Education
• Associate’s Degree Nursing required,
• Bachelor Degree Nursing preferred
Licenses and Certification
• Current Illinois RN licensure
Experience and Skills
• Technical Experience: 3 years
Role Specific Responsibilities
• Scheduling/assigning or ensuring LPN coverage and or personally manning pocket phone coverage for hospital communication with hospital departments (OR, ED endo at St Joe, Lab, and Imaging) in the three specialty pods.
• Entry of all RDEs regarding clinical complaints and clinical safety issues related to medication issues, overall medical management by providers, workflow with hospital and hand-offs.
• Clinical liaison for hand-offs between Oncology and Prairie Heart.
• Leads the clinic to hospital transitions either for direct admit through House Supervisor or Clinic to ED transfers.
• Provides SBAR hand off to physicians on IP Neuro Team and/or ED Providers.
• Prepares staff on mode of transfer to hospital and follows patient to next destination for clinical monitoring.
• Lead in suicidal ideation patients presenting to clinic.
• Assist with New Service New Provider packets and attends committee meeting for review of additions to the service line.
• Assist providers with research, vendor management and collaboration with Endo or OR in development of new service and workflow in collaboration with Service Line Director.
• Oversight of the following procedural workflows:
- Infusion with St Joe
- In office Lumbar puncture
- Large volume Lumbar puncture for NPH with PT evaluation
- EEG Direct Admit
- Stat MRI for Office
- Event Monitor patient flow
- Psych evaluation process currently with Dr. Marsh
• Works with non-clinical practice manager on Gemba Metrics related to clinical outcomes and safety considerations related to physical harm.
• Clinical oversight of the RN Nurse Navigator, IP Navigator and the LPNs and CMAs in the clinic.
• Works with new staff on orientation for disease specific education including:
- MS
- Epilepsy
- Parkinson’s
- Alzheimer’s
- Delirium vs Dementia
- Chiari Malformations
- Brain Aneurysm
- Hydrocephalus
- Schizophrenia
• Procedural Orientation
• Lumify set up and assist
• Botox Injectables set up and assist
• Lumbar Puncture set up and assist
• EMG/NCV set up and assist
• Development and monitoring of patient education for all types of injections/pain pumps/stimulator implants including complications and risk.
• Works on provider algorithms for clinically appropriate and inappropriate referrals for Neurology and Pain. Ensure inappropriate referrals are contacted for educational opportunities and reduction of future referrals and PCP frustration.
Compensation (Commensurate with experience):
