Lead Research Scientist - Formal Methods

Two Six Technologies is seeking a Lead Research Scientist - Formal Methods to research and develop high assurance software and hardware systems using advanced formal analysis technologies. We are seeking candidates with an interest in research as well as a commitment to developing solutions for the real world.

Responsibilities:

• Lead efforts to prove safety and security properties of hardware and software
• Learn and evaluate formal methods tools for use in verification tasks
• Conduct and publish research in formal methods for producing high-confidence software and systems
• Join a small, supportive team that values cooperation and creative spirit
• Collaborate with partners and customers to understand, tailor, and deliver solutions that meet their requirements
• Work remotely with occasional travel to the office for meetings. 

Qualifications:

• Advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in Mathematics, Computer Science, Computer/Electrical Engineering, or related technical domain
• 7+ years of professional (or equivalent) experience in software engineering, cybersecurity, or mathematics
• A foundational knowledge of software and systems engineering
• A working knowledge of concepts from mathematical logic (higher-order logic, type theory)
• Experience working with any of the following, or similar, technologies:
• Interactive theorem provers (e.g. Isabelle/HOL or , Coq)
• SMT solvers (e.g. Z3 or CVC4)
• Model checkers (hardware or software)
• Experience working collaboratively in a small research and development team composed of researchers, engineers, and scientists
• Experience programming with functional languages
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Self-driven work ethic
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Ability to obtain and maintain DoD security clearance

Nice to haves

• Modern cryptography domain experience and knowledge
• Experience developing cybersecurity solutions and products
• Publication record or research experience in a relevant technical field’s
• Familiarity with standard software engineering processes and tools (e.g., git and JIRA)
• Active security clearance
