Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and analytical business professional to oversee, manage, and report on the investment budgets for software and IT projects. This pivotal role requires a strategic thinker with strong financial acumen, exceptional organizational skills, and a collaborative approach to work. You will be responsible for ensuring optimal allocation and utilization of funds, providing actionable insights through monthly reporting, supporting annual planning cycles, and proactively identifying financial trends and risks. Experience working within SAFe Agile and Value Stream operating models is highly desired.
Key Responsibilities:
- Budget Ownership & Management:
- Develop, manage, and track investment budgets for software and IT projects, ensuring alignment with organizational strategy and goals.
- Monitor actual spend against budget, investigate variances, and recommend corrective actions.
- Financial Analysis & Reporting:
- Prepare and deliver monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for IT investments, highlighting spend, variances, and trends.
- Provide detailed analysis on project ROI, cost drivers, and capital expenditures.
- Trend Identification & Insights:
- Analyze financial data to identify key trends, risks, and opportunities within the IT investment portfolio.
- Develop dashboards and visualizations for leadership to drive data-driven decisions.
- Annual Planning & Forecasting:
- Lead and coordinate the annual investment planning and forecasting cycles for IT initiatives.
- Collaborate with IT, finance, and business leaders to prioritize projects and allocate resources effectively.
- Stakeholder Engagement:
- Act as a financial advisor to project managers and department heads, providing guidance on budgetary matters and investment strategies.
- Communicate complex financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
- Process Improvement:
- Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, tools, and reporting mechanisms.
- Implement best practices for budget management and financial governance within the IT organization.
- SAFe Agile & Value Stream Collaboration:
- Partner closely with Value Stream leaders, Release Train Engineers, and Agile teams to align investment budgets with SAFe Agile planning cycles (e.g., PI Planning, Inspect & Adapt).
- Support and enable Lean-Agile budgeting practices, including participatory budgeting and decentralized decision-making within Value Streams.
- Provide financial insights and reporting tailored to Agile Release Trains (ARTs) and Value Stream performance metrics.
- Adapt budget management approaches to support incremental and iterative funding models, ensuring flexibility as priorities shift in Agile environments.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement by leveraging feedback from Agile teams and Value Streams to refine budgeting and investment processes.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- 5+ years of experience in budget management, financial analysis, or investment planning—preferably within an IT or software environment.
- Strong understanding of IT project lifecycles and software development processes.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial modeling; experience with financial management tools (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Adaptive Insights) preferred.
- Hands-on experience working in a SAFe Agile environment and with Value Stream operating models.
- Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a dynamic environment.
