About the role

Opportunity Overview:

We are seeking a Lead Business Intelligence Engineer to join our Business Intelligence team. In this role, you will drive the development and optimization of our data architecture and analytical infrastructure, enabling efficient, scalable, and consistent reporting and analytics across the organization. You will play a critical role in shaping the foundation of our BI ecosystem—working at the intersection of engineering, data modeling, and stakeholder enablement.

This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced BI engineer who can lead cross-functional projects, design performant data models, and contribute to the execution of a unified data strategy across platforms. You will also provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members and contribute to the evolution of Cohere’s modern data stack and governance practices.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead the execution and refinement of our business intelligence data architecture, supporting consistency, performance, and scalability across dashboards and self-service tools.
  • Design and implement robust semantic and dimensional data models that support a wide range of business needs, from operations to clinical performance to strategic initiatives.
  • Collaborate with data platform, analytics, and product teams to define clear data definitions, build source-of-truth tables, and align data transformations with stakeholder requirements.
  • Improve data pipeline efficiency and maintainability by helping establish best practices around dbt
  • Support with release management, quality testing and version control 
  • Support data providers to optimize the delivery of high-impact dashboards and KPI frameworks using Tableau 
  • Serve as primary Tableau Cloud SME for the company; support integration of Tableau dashboards with our front-end application
  • Identify and remediate performance bottlenecks in existing queries and dashboards; ensure efficient access to high-volume datasets.
  • Drive the adoption of scalable, governed data marts that enable self-service analytics while maintaining data integrity and security.
  • Mentor junior engineers and analysts on technical topics, data modeling patterns, and efficient development practices.
  • Contribute to the development of shared documentation, standards, and processes to ensure long-term sustainability and stakeholder trust in our data assets.

What you’ll need:

  • 6+ years of professional experience in business intelligence, data engineering, or analytics, preferably in healthcare or another data-rich, regulated domain.
  • Strong SQL skills and hands-on experience with modern BI tooling and engineering frameworks (e.g., dbt or similar).
  • Experience building and managing curated datasets using claims, member, provider, eligibility, and other healthcare data domains.
  • Proficiency in Tableau (e.g; Tableau Cloud/Desktop/Prep, API, visualization, row level security, etc) 
  • Proven experience designing and implementing scalable data models that support enterprise reporting and ad hoc analysis.
  • Deep understanding of dimensional modeling, normalization/denormalization tradeoffs, and performance tuning for analytical workloads.
  • Familiarity with workflow orchestration tools such as Airflow
  • Experience working in AWS 
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills—able to translate technical concepts into clear business value.

The salary range for this position is $110,000 to $150,000 annually; as part of a total benefits package which includes health insurance, 401k and bonus. In accordance with state applicable laws, Cohere is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. Individual pay decisions are ultimately based on a number of factors, including but not limited to qualifications for the role, experience level, skillset, and internal alignment.
