This position will work with the Dunton Lab to assist on the Nueces Delta marsh monitoring project in addition to other duties, including seagrass assessment.
Position located in Port Aransas, Texas. Only applicants authorized to work in the United States will be considered.
Purpose
This position will work with the Dunton Lab to assist the Texas Seagrass Monitoring Program (TSMP) in addition to other duties.
Responsibilities
- Conduct marsh vegetation monitoring for the Nueces Delta marsh monitoring project and seagrass assessment. Duties include sampling via boat, snorkeling, sampling via hiking through wetland habitats, and data entry.
- Analyze water samples in laboratory for Total Suspended Solids, chlorophyll a, and nutrients.
- Process sediment and seagrass cores for soil organic matter, porewater nutrients, stable isotope analyses, and moisture content.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in marine, biological, or environmental sciences, or a closely related field.
- General knowledge of local ecosystems including marine flora and fauna.
- Strong organizational and computer skills (MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
- Basic swimming skills and hiking ability
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with vegetation identification, sampling methodology, and use of CTD instrumentation. Boat operating skills
Experience with sediment and water quality analyses such as chlorophyll, total suspended solids, nutrients, and organic matter content
Experience with grades K-8 outreach.
Driving Required
This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).
Salary Range
$15 per hour
