Job Description

Position Overview

The  After School Program Director is an ideal position for a mission driven leader to pilot a high-impact, after-school program at one of our Bronx school campuses. This role is ideal for a visionary candidate who thrives in building systems, developing teams, and leading innovative youth programs that expand access and opportunity for students.This role is a critical component of KIPP NYC’s expanded learning vision and offers the opportunity to influence the future of after-school programming across our network.

The Program Director will drive the design and execution of a robust after-school experience aligned to KIPP NYC’s Graduate Aims, Positive Youth Development principles, and culturally responsive practices. Reporting directly to the Regional Manager of After School Programs, the Program Director will manage all aspects of the school-based program delivery, team management, cross-functional collaboration, and site-level decision-making.

This position is based in New York, NY and requires daily travel to a KIPP NYC school located in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Harlem, and Washington Heights.

General Responsibilities and Duties, but not limited to:

  • Lead the vision, planning, and execution of a single-site after-school program centered around high quality, age-appropriate student experiences, including academic support, project-based enrichment and beyond-the-classroom opportunities, such as student showcases, special events, field trips, and family engagement 
  • Oversee all program operations including fiscal budget, day-to-day logistics, student supervision, and scheduling, in partnership with the school Principal and staff to ensure seamless daily transitions between day school and after-school time.
  • Assess program effectiveness, refine strategy, and drive continuous improvement using program data, such as attendance, engagement, student growth, staff performance
  • Ensure adherence to all safety, health, and operational protocols required by KIPP: NYC and external oversight bodies such as DOH, including required documentation for student attendance, incident reporting, evaluations, and program assessments.
  • Manage a diverse team of after-school educators, enrichment instructors, and volunteers by creating a professional learning culture grounded in equity, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement, using staff meetings, coaching, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Actively participate in school-based leadership meetings and regional professional development opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Education, Youth Development, Nonprofit Management, or a related field. Experience working in K–12 public or charter schools, preferred
  • Minimum 5+ years experience in expanded learning, after-school, or youth development programs, with a minimum of 2 years in a leadership role.  Familiarity with DYCD-funded programming and NYC regulatory requirements, highly preferred
  • Experience with OCFS School Age Child Care Regulations
  • Successful experience developing, managing, and monitoring large, goal-oriented programs
  • Strong skills in strategic planning, problem-solving, team leadership, and stakeholder communication
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with keen attention to detail
  • Capacity to build, develop, and maintain strong relationships with school leaders, staff, students, teachers, parents, and community stakeholders
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, youth empowerment, and the mission of KIPP NYC

Compensation and Benefits:

KIPP NYC offers a competitive salary ranging from $65,000-$78,000 for the After School Program Director role. Salary ranges at KIPP NYC are standardized based on role level and role function. Individual salaries are determined through a lens
