The Junior Sales & Trading Analyst role is an entry-level position designed to provide hands-on exposure to the dynamic environment of Global Markets. This role is a blend of business engagement and operational support, offering candidates a unique opportunity to contribute to client-focused projects while building a strong foundation in sales and trading. Over the course of a two-year program, Junior Analysts will rotate through multiple business lines, gaining direct exposure to financial markets, client interactions, and desk operations, while preparing for a transition into the Global Markets Analyst Program (GMAP).

Junior Analysts will be expected to obtain their Series 7 and 63 licenses within six months of joining the program. This role is intended to be a two-year development position, with the expectation that successful candidates will join our GMAP class upon completion of the rotations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Market Exposure: Participate in real-time sales and trading activities by working alongside senior team members to support the business and analyze market trends. Develop a deep understanding of financial markets and client strategies.
  • Client Interaction Support: Assist in preparing materials for client meetings, ensuring all relevant data and analysis are ready to deliver impactful presentations. Engage with clients on logistical coordination and post-meeting follow-ups.
  • Desk Collaboration: Actively contribute to desk initiatives by shadowing and supporting team members in sales, trading, and client interactions. Provide insights and solutions for improving desk efficiency and productivity.  
  • Administrative Support: Manage travel arrangements and expense submissions to ensure seamless operations, allowing senior team members to focus on business growth. Maintain precision and timeliness in administrative tasks.
  • Development & Training: Participate in structured training programs on market products, trading strategies, and client engagement. Build technical and soft skills to enhance readiness for GMAP transition.
  • Series 7 and 63 Preparation: Dedicate time to studying for and passing the required licensing exams within six months of onboarding, a critical milestone for advancing in the program.
  • Strategic Projects: Collaborate on ad hoc projects that contribute to business growth, including data analysis, process improvements, and supporting strategic initiatives.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, economics, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with clients and team members.
  • Willingness to rotate through multiple business groups and adapt quickly to new challenges.
  • Demonstrated interest in financial markets and a desire to build a career in sales, trading, or market analysis.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) with an eagerness to learn specialized software tools.
  • A commitment to obtaining Series 7 and 63 licenses within the first six months.

The salary range for this role located in New York City s $70,000.00 - $90,000.00 USD

Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
