Summary

The Quality Engineer provides guidance to and interacts with Process Engineering and management in solving product and process quality issues. Also identifies opportunities for improvement and mitigates risks in process deployment and sustaining process capability.

Detailed Description

  • Assist with the generation, disposition, and processing of Discrepant Material Reports (DMR’s) both internally and externally for customers. Participate in Material Review Board (MRB) meetings and assist in the disposition of discrepant material & follow-up corrective action requests (CAR’s) for internal actions needed to resolve the problem and prevent reoccurrence.
  • Engage in process and product improvement projects by working with engineering and production groups using Quality Tools such as 8 Discipline, Fishbone Diagramming, and Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
  • Works with engineers for Advanced Quality Planning of new products and products transferred through participation in Process Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (PFMEA) and New Production Introduction (NPI)

  • Review and make recommendations for new inspection methods and equipment to assure that new products characteristics are properly measured and assessed. This will involve the design, execution and documentation of experiments.
  • Evaluate KPI statistical data (e.g.: on-time delivery, process yield, customer satisfaction, CAPA, RMA, SCRAP, DMR, supplier performance) in order to drive cost reduction from the removal of waste and inefficiency.

  • Set and executes project plans, adheres to timelines and performance expectations
  • Assists the Quality Manager with day-to-day plant issue.

Additional Duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Participate in ISO and customer audits through preparation of documentation, answering and/or redirecting questions.
  • Plans, directs, performs, and reports the results of process, product, systems, supplier, and ISO quality audits.
     

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies

  • Strong understanding of documentation processes and quality systems.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of assorted quality tools and standards (Gage R&R, Capability, PFMEA, 8 Discipline, Fishbone Diagramming, and Root Cause Analysis (RCA))
  • Fully understands and implements statistics, quality systems and tools (SPC, Lean, CAPA, CI, QMS)
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a wide variety of internal and external customers.
  • Knowledge of computer applications and the ability to accurately perform tasks in some or all of the following applications: MS-Office (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint) Statistical Analysis Software,
     

Physical Demands

 

  • Repetitive manual movements (e.g., keyboarding)
  • Sustained visual concentration on small areas, such as monitors, screens
  • Sustained visual concentration on numbers, legal documents
  • The job works in a normal office environment with no undue exposure to noise, odours, dust, drafts, etc.

Typical Experience

  • 1-3 years of relevant work experience in Quality Engineering

Typical Education

Bachelor’s degree in related field (Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Business Management etc.)
