Junior Data Scientist

Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) is seeking an entry level data scientist to join the Modeling and Research Tools (MART) group in Bentonville, Arkansas. The ideal candidate should be passionate about pursuing practical solutions to complex problems, driven by using data to aid in real-world government and military operations. This position requires a self-driven individual with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. The day-to-day responsibilities of this role will be to structure and organize data efficiently, while providing team members with reliable analyses of available datasets and interpretation of data insights.

The successful candidate will join a multi-disciplinary team of professionals developing predictive mathematical and data models to solve critical problems of national importance.

What you’ll do as a Junior Data Scientist:

• Automate mining and collection processes from self-researched and government-provided data sources
• Maintain data management systems for ongoing, collaborative projects
• Pre-process structured and unstructured data
• Validate data integrity and conduct advanced statistical analysis
• Develop workflows for data science projects
• Support mathematical model development and testing from curated data
• Employ machine-learning algorithms

Required qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree with 0-2 years’ experience or high school diploma with 6-8 years’ experience

Strong written and verbal interpersonal communication skills

• Proven excellent attention to detail and high degree of organization
• Basic Python coding skills and intermediate database skills
• Understanding of data mining and management
• Training in data visualization tools and best practices
• US citizen with the ability to obtain DoD Secret clearance
• Willingness to relocate to Bentonville, Arkansas

Preferred qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Data Science
• Demonstrated aptitude for self-directed problem solving
• Real-world experience with data mining
• Formal training in statistical modeling, plus descriptive and predictive analytics
• Familiarity with industry-standard software stacks
• Experience with cloud computing platforms
