About the role

Hearst Transportation has an opening for a Junior Accountant.  This position will contribute to the efficient and effective workings of the Finance Department by executing daily tasks with a careful attention to detail and accuracy. This role will utilize accounting knowledge, time management skills, solid communication skills and effective problem solving.  The position is located in the Hearst office in Charlotte, NC.

What will you do?

  • Perform accounts payable duties, including coding invoices as required. Running AP extract reports for multiple units as needed.
  • Resolve discrepancies with tax jurisdictions on sales tax collections and reporting, supporting the Avalara sales tax system.
  • Accounts receivable duties including collection calls on overdue accounts.
  • Record Journal Entry for monthly cashbook into Oracle general ledger system. Record monthly statistical journal entries for headcount and contingent labor.
  • Assist senior accountants with general month-end close journal entries and procedures.
  • Participate in quarterly and year-end tasks assisting senior accountants with audit requests and tax department reporting requirements.
  • Participate in account reconciliations and analysis using Oracle ARCS system and Excel.
  • Code monthly Inter-Company transactions for multiple business units. 
  • Maintain (DSO) Days Sales Outstanding calculations for all units.

What will it take to be successful?

  • Ability to work with accuracy and within deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work efficiently with large volumes of transactions
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite with intermediate Excel skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all levels of staff and external clients as needed
  • Ability to work both independently, when remote, and in a team-oriented office environment. 

Experience

  • 1 – 2 years of accounting experience required
  • Experience with Oracle or similar ERP system a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or related business field
