JOB SUMMARY
The Java Software Engineer II plans and performs software design, documentation, and development activities of modern web- and cloud-based applications for customers and implements Trace3 Government Software-as-a-Service products. You will be part of a software development team’s evolution from a traditional DoD software engineering environment to an OpenShift/Cloud Development, Security, and Operations environment in support of APE prototyping supporting both our customers and internal initiatives. All work should be completed with a sense of urgency and timeliness, always striving to exceed expectations, ensuring the highest standard of work excellence expected by Trace3 Government engineers.

JOB SUMMARY
The Java Software Engineer II plans and performs software design, documentation, and development activities of modern web- and cloud-based applications for customers and implements Trace3 Government Software-as-a-Service products. You will be part of a software development team’s evolution from a traditional DoD software engineering environment to an OpenShift/Cloud Development, Security, and Operations environment in support of APE prototyping supporting both our customers and internal initiatives. All work should be completed with a sense of urgency and timeliness, always striving to exceed expectations, ensuring the highest standard of work excellence expected by Trace3 Government engineers.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Analyze complex issues, identify the underlying causes, and propose effective solutions - previous experience REQUIRED
- Perform software development using Java, C++ - previous experience REQUIRED
- Debug existing software and correct defects - previous experience REQUIRED
- Providing recommendations and establish an initial DevSecOps environment in a SIL on a RedHat Linux environment, with familiarity with OpenShift
- Being a key part of a team that is transitioning from legacy software to cloud-based Java architecture, software, and agile engineering approaches
- Develop code in accordance with coding and security standards; STIG, Microservices
- Working within agile processes for short cycle, fast-paced delivery both independently and on a team
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & CERTIFICATIONS:
- In depth of knowledge in Java and C++
- Experience and understanding of developing an enterprise system not small individual applications
- 5-7+ years of relevant experience in software engineering
- Ability to recommend, configure, and maintain DevSecOps pipeline tools and environments, including OpenShift
- Experience with transitioning from traditional on-premise development environment to a cloud environment
- Cloud architecture experience, with the ability to evolve legacy software into a microservices architecture and expertise with specifying the inputs, outputs and service roles within the architecture
- Software engineering experience in an OpenShift RedHat environment
- Knowledge of containers and Kubernetes
- Java, C++ experience is a requirement
- Python and/or JavaScript experience is strongly desired
- Agile software engineering approaches; Experience applying behavior-driven and test-driven development
- Knowledge of DevSecOps software engineering approaches
- Ability and desire to learn a legacy code baseline -- desire to work on sustainment of an existing system
- Agile experience and Atlassian suite (Jira, Git, BitBucket, Confluence) experience - Highly Desired/ Bonus
- Active Secret Security clearance required
