About the role
- Responsible for the training strategy, curriculum development, training delivery, and logistical support for assigned applications and projects. Consults and develops relationships with Operational and IT stakeholders to understand workflows, processes, business objectives, performance gaps, and areas for optimization. Creates and maintains curriculum (including classroom, e-learning, online, and desk-level training materials and training environment build) based on IT/Operational feedback, routine application and workflow updates, learning needs assessments, and business objectives. Has broad knowledge base related to Epic system functionality and understands the implementation of new Epic functionality and enhancements, working with application build teams on its designed workflows and emphasizes its appropriate use with end users. Additionally, Principal Trainers are responsible for providing on-site support and conducting site visits.
- Manages assigned projects to completion, including task and timeline development, deliverable creation, change management, and communication. Participates in the change planning process and ensures all change planning tasks are performed per procedure for owned applications. Leads or participates in training team initiatives such as process documentation and training team or interdepartmental workgroups.
- Reports to the designated team lead and is responsible for the guidance, mentorship and supervision of Credentialed Trainers to ensure development and support in areas such as training delivery and administration, deliverable creation, customer service, and on-site support. Participates in the interviewing, hiring, and orientation of new department staff.
- The Principal Trainer is an integral member of the leadership team, supporting the manager and leadership team in the day-to-day operations and management of the department. Leads service excellence initiatives in support of internal and external customers and coordinates staff involvement in testing and communicating new functionality. Assumes management responsibilities in the absence of the leadership team and manager
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience. This position requires obtaining a certification in an assigned Epic application within three months of hire.
- Knowledge: Knowledge of Epic systems required. High level of proficiency in instructional design and curriculum development, training delivery and facilitation, change management, and project management, generally acquired through three (3) years’ experience.
- Skills: Must have excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills and be able to effectively work with all levels of personnel and present to groups of all sizes. Work requires in-depth analysis of workflows, system details, and technical issues associated with the Epic application. Analyzing new functionality and determining the end user impacts and training strategy. Troubleshooting problems and questions from end users. Interfacing with key IT, clinical, business and operations staff to assist in the development, documentation, and socialization of efficient workflows. Solving complex problems and developing solutions which may be unique, using judgment and initiative. Escalating issues identified by customers to the appropriate resources for resolution. Following up with customers to ensure a satisfactory resolution has been attained.
- Required Licensure, Certification, Etc.: Certification in assigned Epic application required within three months of hire.
- Work Experience: At least three (3) years of progressive experience (preferably in Epic) and demonstrated proficiency in instructional design and delivery, training strategy and implementation, change management, and project management.
