2nd Shift 1MEV Irradiation Operator

A qualified Irradiation Operator has knowledge of the Irradiation line and accessory equipment, is capable of setting up and operating the machine to the prescribed parameters. The operator understands and performs all tasks in conformance with posted instructions and required documentation. The operator is expected to detect faulty machine operation, defective materials, process problems or any safety problems and communicate to the supervisor.

Essential Duties:

  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of the Irradiation line including payoffs, takeup/traversing system and accumulator/dancers.
  • Ability to clean drums and restring machine when necessary.
  • Change parameters and capstan gears according to engineering beaming specifications.
  • Continually check line tensions to prevent wire or tie breaks.
  • Attend to machine during operation. Change spools on payoff and takeup reels as required. Detect and tag faulty material.
  • Perform irradiation tasks in conformity with quality inspection check list, the manufacturing instruction sheet and the safety work practice summary.
  • Complete workcenter documentation including labor reporting sheets, operator logs, traveler cards and length sheets.
  • Monitor or adjust controls to ensure machine runs at specified parameters.

Reports to Quality Assurance manager to help maintain & improve the ISO/TL quality system. The QA tech test data uploads, incoming inspection, testing, supplier performance tracking, to maintain the gauge. QA tech does special customer testing, reports, and reel labeling.

Essential Duties:

  • Performs time-sensitive uploads and verifies accuracy of test data to ERP system for inventory.
  • Files and maintains QA/Production quality records.
  • Performs regular backups of office PC containing quality records and quality system documents.
  • Oversees gauge/instrument calibration system including generation of calibration due lists, maintenance of calibration database, master calibration standards, and paper files, as well interfacing with outside companies and other internal departments to resolve gauge and instrument calibration issues.
  • Performs incoming raw material inspection and testing, including the use of common hand tools, network analyzers, and PIM test equipment, and files associated paperwork.
  • Assists in maintaining & calibrating QA test equipment on the production floor.
  • Assists in updating and distributing ISO/TL quality system documentation.

Education and Experience Preferred:

  • High School education or GED is required. AA/BA/BS in Manufacturing or related field is preferred.
  • 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment with responsibilities in machine operating, leading/supervising team members is strongly preferred, but not required.
  • A combination of equivalent of education and experience is acceptable.
  • Wire and Cable experience is strongly preferred.

Knowledge and Skills Preferred:

  • Hands-on wire and cable experience strongly preferred.
  • Ability to read and write clearly.
  • Ability to organize works tasks efficiently.
  • Ability to communicate efficiently with all levels of employees.
  • Must be able to perform basic arithmetic, statistics, and other specific mathematical applications.
  • Ability to perform basic functions in Microsoft applications.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including the designs, uses, repairs, and basic maintenance.
  • Basic knowledge of principles and processes for providing customers specific requirements and specifications.
  • Must be able to multi-task, follow priorities given, and have strong troubleshooting techniques.
  • Self-starter; ability to take initiative and work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong housekeeping practices and organizational skills desired.
