Department Overview
The organizations within Motorola Solutions providing products and services to our customers are responsible for the development of the company’s mission-critical communications and mission-critical intelligence portfolio, including command center applications (on-prem, SaaS, hybrid), Land Mobile Radio (LMR), and LTE solutions, as well as managed and support services around the world.The Engineering Practice is a centralized group within the North American Software Deployment & Systems Integration (NA SD+SI) organization and comprises subject matter expert Practice Office teams with a specific technology focus, including RF Coverage Analysis, Design and test, IP Networking, Microwave Design, and LMR and Command Center Applications.
Job Description
Scope of Responsibilities / Expectations:
The IP Networking Practice Office Lead will take responsibility for leading the subject matter expert team for North America responsible for establishing and maintaining the design and deployment standards for the mobile backhaul networks that support the Motorola Solutions Products and Services portfolio.
● Lead a team of IP Networking Subject Matter Experts to provide pre and post-sales technical support on our most complex projects. Team members include individuals reporting to you or to other managers within the US and Canada.
● Establish and maintain processes, tools, and reference designs to ensure quality solution delivery.
● Disseminate engineering design best practices and lessons learned to the field engineering community through training, detailed documentation, reference designs, and installation methods of procedure.
● Prevent mistakes in technical design, quoting, and deployment that erode profit margin.
● Design training content and best practices for mobile backhaul in sync with new products and services releases – liaison with product teams to ensure field readiness.
● Drive the NA Network Certification program for all field engineers and solution architects.
● Maintain and develop network design and deployment tools
● Support and enhance purpose-built network training labs for our certified vendors – both physical and virtual. Participate and support NA SI field integration labs' backhaul and remote access designs.
● Lead the effort to vet Layer2/3 and MPLS vendor product and software technical requirements and maintain relationships between the vendor and MSI procurement to ensure the availability and orderability of the items needed for our systems.
● Provide consultative support on high-priority projects/customers from proposal through deployment or in the case of critical outages affecting users of the backhaul network.
● Create and maintain operational metrics and associated KPIs for backhaul network design and deployment
● Prepare content, and participate in quarterly operations and project reviews with senior management
● Manage the Cybersecurity standards and incident response for NA SD+SI projects, including design and deployment process impact assessment & project remediation actions within our domain.
● Interface with the corporate cybersecurity leadership to execute training and standards for NA SD +SI. Perform impact assessment of identified vulnerabilities, including coordination with the Product and Service/Support teams.
● Issue timely updates/presentations (including critical incident response) communications to the pre/postsale field organizations via meetings, seminars, emails, and website.
Desired Background/Knowledge/Skills:
● Motorola ASTRO LMR System and Applications deployment experience (including remote access and control room CEN design standards)
● Advanced Networking design and deployment knowledge – Layer 2 routing protocols, VLANs, Service Provider Switching, firewalls, network access security, VPNs, MPLS, QoS and Services, OAM, etc.
● Proficiency in interfacing layer 1 devices and transmission systems - Microwave, Fiber, Broadband Service Providers, etc.
