About the role

Overview

The Department of Corrections position requires a person to assist offenders to make informed decisions about jobs; develop vocational and educational plans based on knowledge of their interests, skills/abilities, and values. 


Vocational Guidance Skills
A range of processes and procedures developed to guide, expose and bring about offenders' awareness of job choices and opportunities with the goal of maximizing the individual's potential for job retention and advancement. May work directly with Risk Intervention Services team including Case work staff to develop plans. 

Creating enrichment events within the facility to educate and inform incarcerated individuals of the services available to them during reentry.  

 

Job Readiness Skills
Identifies need for and assists in development of secondary services to facilitate bringing an offender into job ready status.

 

Job Development Skills
Promotes and develops employment and on-the-job training opportunities for offenders.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed in a variety of settings including Department of Corrections Facilities, State offices, educational institutions, employer worksites, local & state cross disciplinary groups, and community service providers. Substantial travel is required, for which a State of Vermont Fleet vehicle will be issued. Some work outside of normal office hours may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree AND two (2) years or more of experience with creating programs and partnerships related to workforce development and training programs, or similar environment.


OR


Associate’s degree AND three (3) years or more of experience with creating programs and partnerships related to workforce development and training programs, or similar environment.


OR


High School diploma or equivalent AND five (5) years or more of experience with creating programs and partnerships related to workforce development and training programs, or similar environment.

Special Requirements

Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position. In accordance with AHS Policy 4.02, Hiring Standards, Vermont and/or national criminal record checks, as well as DMV and adult and child abuse registry checks, as appropriate to the position under recruitment, will be conducted on candidates, with the exception of those who are current classified state employees seeking transfer, promotion or demotion into an AHS classified position or are persons exercising re-employment (RIF) rights.
