About the role

Description

The Vanderbilt Eye Institute at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee is actively seeking an ophthalmologist with expertise or strong interest in informatics to join our faculty. The Vanderbilt Eye Institute is a multi-specialty academic ophthalmology practice with more than 60 clinical and research full-time faculty members, state of the art facilities and equipment and multiple satellite locations to serve an annual patient visit volume exceeding 170,000. We promote a collegial environment and collaborative culture that has enabled unprecedented growth.

The Vanderbilt Eye Institute is planning robust growth of our ophthalmic informatics program over the next several years. Vanderbilt University Medical Center has a top-ranked Department of Biomedical Informatics that offers some of the country's best training opportunities in clinical and biomedical informatics. There is ample opportunity for collaboration between ophthalmologists and informaticians and unparalleled access to rich repositories of EHR, genomic, and imaging data for research purposes.

We seek faculty candidates who have graduated from an accredited medical school with residency training who practice comprehensive or a subspecialty of ophthalmology. They should be certified or eligible for certification by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Some formal training (e.g., master’s degree) in informatics is desirable but not required, as there will be opportunities for professional development for those with a strong interest in informatics. The position is open to new residency graduates or experienced physicians with a desire to integrate a patient care practice, education, and application of informatics in an academic setting.
