About the role

The Role:

The Moderna Research Co-op program is a 6-month experiential training program for students currently working towards an undergraduate or advanced degree in life/computer science. We are seeking talented and motivated students to be part of the vaccine discovery team for a wide range of disease targets. The Coop will work with other members of Infectious Disease Research group on the discovery and development of Moderna’s mRNA vaccine and immunotherapy candidates. You will work under the supervision of an experienced Moderna team member and have opportunities for cross-team collaboration, networking, and mentorship. You will learn how to apply programming skills for data collection, processing, statistical analysis, predictive modeling, and visualization to support program/project development. Also, you will learn about general experimental design and scientific strategy planning. The candidate will be part of the computational immunology team and support their own projects.

If you are bold, relentless, collaborative and obsess over learning, a co-op at Moderna will help augment your research experience and accelerate your career.

All applicants must be available for the entire duration of the program: January 21st-June 20th 2024.

Here’s What You’ll Do:

  • Develop analytics pipelines for different types of high-dimensional data, including but not limited to data from next generation sequencing, flow cytometry, mass spectrometry, ELISA, Luminex, or imaging.

  • Work on benchmarking the best methods for integration of single cell RNA-seq datasets (TCR/BCR-seq, CITE-seq and scRNAseq) from different sources.

  • Work on advanced statistical modeling for the study of immune correlate discovery.

  • Work with the IT teams to establish and maintain an automated workflow for data acquisition and processing in a cloud-based environment.

  • Develop customized code in R or Python to streamline data collection and management.

  • Implement and benchmark the existing statistical algorithms for specific data analysis as well as predictive machine-learning modeling.

  • Manage and improve computational immunology team’s code and data repository and training documents.

  • Align with infectious disease research group members for specific data analysis or data visualization plan and deliver the results.

  • Prepare documents and present strategy, results, project updates, and summaries.

Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table:

  • Currently enrolled in an advanced degree program in computational biology, bioinformatics, biostatistics, computational science, or bioengineering.
