Job Description
Eastern Shore Community College is a member of the Virginia Community College System. The College serves the residents of Accomack County and Northampton County as a two-year institution of higher learning. Operating under policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Eastern Shore Community College Board, the college is financed primarily with state funds, supplemented by contributions from the two counties and the Eastern Shore Community College Foundation.
The Human Resource Generalist serves as key contributor to the College’s human resources operations by providing comprehensive support across all functional areas of human resource management. This position is responsible for providing guidance and assistance in the areas of recruitment and selection, employee relations, performance management, classification and compensation; reviews personnel actions and provides recommendations to ensure consistent application of human resources policies and procedures.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications- Working knowledge of human resource principles and practices, with the ability to interpret, apply, and communicate policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements to a diverse workforce.
- Proficiency in PC-based software applications, including Microsoft Office, with the ability to learn and effectively utilize HR information systems, applicant tracking systems, and onboarding platforms.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, organize work, and meet deadlines with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to collect, review, and process information using manual and automated systems.
- Demonstrated ability to provide exceptional customer service and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with faculty, staff, and applicants.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain a high level of confidentiality, and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while also collaborating effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities, processes, and organizational needs while supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
· Familiarity with federal and state employment laws.
· SHRM-CP or PHR certification.
· Basic payroll knowledge.
· Knowledge of benefits plans (e.g., medical and retirement)
