Job Description:

Summary:

The Office Assistant (OA) is a student staff member in Housing & Residence Life within the University’s Division of Student Affairs. OAs play a critical role in providing high-level customer service, administrative support, and ensuring smooth daily office operations. This position fosters a welcoming experience for students, families, and campus partners. Office Assistants report to the Housing Assignments team and collaborate with professional and student staff across Housing & Residence Life.

Essential Functions:

  • Serve as the first point of contact for students, families, and guests at the Housing & Residence Life office.
  • Assist via phone, email, live chat, and in-person interactions, providing accurate information about housing policies, procedures, and campus resources.
  • Support special projects, including organizing documents and reviewing HRL communication and websites.
  • Monitor and respond to inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
  • Assist with processing paperwork and administrative tasks.
  • Support office events, meetings, and training sessions as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

  • Student.
  • Part-time position.
  • Expected to work 10-20 hours per week.
  • Office Hours: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM with potential for non-traditional hours.

Salary Range:

  • $17.50/hr.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Must be enrolled as a student at American University.
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.25 or higher.

  • Demonstrate strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, and customer service skills.
  • Exhibit professionalism, reliability, and confidentiality in handling sensitive information.
