Position Summary:

University of Wisconsin Platteville is seeking an HR Generalist: Employee Relations, FMLA & Onboarding.

The HR Generalist provides comprehensive human resources support across employee lifecycle activities, with a primary focus on leave administration, employee relations, onboarding, and HR systems. This position serves as a trusted resource for employees and managers, ensuring HR processes are administered consistently, accurately, confidentially, and in accordance with university policies and applicable employment laws.

The HR Generalist will manage the day-to-day administration of Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and other applicable leaves, assist with employee relations matters, and coordinate onboarding activities through Workday. The ideal candidate is highly organized, approachable, detail-oriented, and able to balance employee service with sound HR practices. This is a full time, benefits and paid leave eligible position, with a starting salary of $50,000, commensurate with skills and experience.

Key Job Responsibilities:

Leave Administration

  • Administer the FMLA process from initial employee request through leave completion.
  • Communicate leave requirements and expectations clearly to employees and managers.
  • Coordinate FMLA with other applicable federal, state, and university leave programs.
  • Stay current on applicable leave laws, regulations, and university policies.

Employee Relations

  • Serve as a resource to employees and managers regarding workplace concerns, policies, and HR practices.
  • Assist with employee relations investigations, including gathering information, documenting findings, and maintaining appropriate records.
  • Support HR leadership with performance management, corrective action, coaching, and conflict resolution.
  • Help ensure employee relations matters are handled consistently, objectively, confidentially, and in accordance with university policies.



Workday Onboarding

  • Manage and coordinate the employee onboarding process within Workday.
  • Partner with hiring managers and other departments to ensure a smooth transition from offer acceptance through the employee's first day.
  • Maintain accurate employee records and HR data within Workday.



General HR Support

  • Provide day-to-day HR support to employees and managers.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential personnel records.
  • Assist with audits, reporting, HR projects, and compliance activities.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • 2–4 years of progressive HR generalist or related HR experience.

  • Experience administering FMLA or other employee leave programs.

  • Experience supporting employee relations matters.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain confidential information.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

  • Ability to work effectively with employees and managers at all levels.
