Purpose

Under the supervision of the Performing Arts Librarian, the HMRC Processing Project Assistant will help arrange and describe materials in the Historical Music Recording Collection, an extensive archive of audio recordings. The position will work with reel-to-reel tapes and other material formats, increasing the usability of these collections.

Responsibilities

• Create metadata for historic music recordings
• Create collection inventories/finding aids
• Review items against existing collections
• Assist with preservation tasks as needed
• Other projects as assigned

Required Qualifications

• UT Austin student enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits for Fall 2025 semester.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently.
• Standard computer skills and proficiency using Google Sheets/Microsoft Excel

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of classical music, opera, or other musical genres, and/or music history.
• Knowledge of research methodologies and techniques
• Work experience in libraries, archives, or special collections.
• Knowledge of preservation materials, practices, and theories.

Salary Range
$15.00/hour

Working Conditions

• Position involves working with archival collections in varying conditions and molds, dust, and other air-borne allergens may be present.

Work Shift

8-10 hrs/week, flexible scheduling Mon-Fri between 9:00am – 5:00pm.
