POSITION SUMMARY
The Trout Unlimited Headwaters Youth Education program seeks a dynamic and visionary individual to join our team as the Events Coordinator for Headwaters Youth Programs. This coordinator-level position will play a key role in shaping and leading our youth education initiatives to inspire and empower young people as fly anglers and coldwater conservationists.
The Coordinator plays a key role in the development and delivery of Trout Unlimited’s Headwaters Programs, a multi-faceted educational outreach program that involves youth and young adults in Trout Unlimited’s conservation mission. The Coordinator works closely with the Headwaters Program’s Managers to promote, grow, and sustain a series of sub-programs within Headwaters known as the Stream of Engagement.
The Coordinator will play a key role in planning, promoting, and executing TU Expeditions and assisting in-person with 5 Rivers Regional Rendezvous. In addition, the Coordinator will help facilitate youth programming at Regional Rendezvous and CX3, as well as support TU’s 26 national camps, and sustain the engagement of a digital network of event participants and other youth leaders throughout the year.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership
- Execute the strategic vision for the Headwaters youth education program
- Collaborate with staff and volunteer leadership at the chapter, council and NLC levels to integrate youth education initiatives into the overall conservation and engagement strategies.
Program Development, Implementation, and Budgeting
- Oversee the design, development and implementation of the programs within TU’s Stream of Engagement
- In conjunction with the STREAM Education Manager, develop a robust summer TU Expedition program for teens and college students
- Establish relationships with local TU chapters and communities to establish STREAM Keepers programs as part of the TU Expeditions
- Track all TU Expedition activities, outcomes, and expenditures and integrate information into TU’s federal grant reporting system
- Working with the TU Volunteer Governance and Compliance Manager, ensure that all youth-focused staff and volunteers are equipped with the requisite risk management and mitigation skills and tools.
- In conjunction with the Youth Fly Fishing Programs Manager, support regional four regional college events and one leadership summit
- Create and distribute communications materials from youth events
Team Management and Development
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment, promoting cross-functional teamwork, knowledge sharing and a culture of continuous learning
- Assist with management of the TU Teens Network and support them throughout the year in obtaining their objectives
- Build and lead a team of two seasonal Expeditions staff members
Fundraising
- With support from TU’s development staff and the Headwaters Managers, assist with overall fundraising operations which may include stewarding established individual donors, foundations, and corporations.
- A bachelor’s degree.
- At least one year of experience in education, youth outreach organizational development, volunteer management, community organizing or similar work.
- Highly motivated, self-directed, and capable of identifying needs and responding with strategic action.
- Creative, strategic and collaborative “problem-solver.” Ability to listen to and reconcile diverse viewpoints/ conflict management skills.
- Demonstrated success managing multiple projects simultaneously and meeting deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Strong networking and partnership development abilities, with experience collaborating with educational institutions, government agencies, NGOs and community organizations.
- Exceptional event planning skills.
- Exceptional writing skills.
- Detail oriented.
- Ability and desire to establish and build strong relationships with teammates and diverse partners.
