About the role

Description

The Y is seeking a Gymnastics Team Coach to work in their busy Gymnastics Center. In this role you will provide professional quality coaching to all levels of the gymnastics team in a safe, culturally aware and positive environment, while maintaining effective communication between team parents, coaches and instructors, with advocacy for diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). Essential Functions

 

Builds personal and meaningful relationships with YMCA members, participants, volunteers, and guests. While exemplifying the Y’s commitment to DEI and the four-character values of caring, honesty, respect & responsibility and responds to all member and community inquiries in a timely manner.

2. Leads energizing, fun, culturally aware, safe, and educational group classes, as directed by the supervisor, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.

3. Answers questions from members to support them in achieving their goals related to healthy living. Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.

4. Builds effective, culturally aware, authentic relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA using a DEI lens.

5. Provide direct supervision and instruction to gymnastic participants in accordance with the YMCA Best practices, and policies and procedures.

6. Assist with setting up and adjusting lesson plans and structure of classes, rentals, and open gymnastics.

7. Builds effective, culturally aware, authentic relationships with students. Identifies potential volunteers/employees. Advocates for diverse participants.

8. Develops positive relationships with participants and provides motivational support and guidance.

9. Perform evaluations, each session, which will give participants a baseline to see improvements.

10. Conveys program information, surveys, and annual campaign to participants.

11. Participates in staff meetings, training, events, reviews, and other scheduled events.

12. Set-up and maintain class equipment use and configuration and be accountable for housekeeping in the gymnastics area, bleachers, cubbies, and program closet.

13. Upholds all YMCA policies, procedures, standards, and code of conduct

Requirements

  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Meets 80% to 100% of the following qualifications:

1. Ability to perform duties with professionalism, enthusiasm, kindness, empathy, care, honesty, and respect.

2. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

3. Must have a fundamental knowledge of gymnastics skills and the ability to demonstrate them. 

4. Willingness to learn additional areas in the gymnastics department. 

5. Ability to communicate respectfully and effectively with class participants, superiors, and co-workers. 

6. Must be able to implement oral and written instructions. 

7. Exercises mature judgment and sound decision making. 

8. Ability to lift equipment and learn to spot children with basic skills

9. Must have 1-2 years of previous gymnastics or related coaching or teaching experience. 

10. Must have 1-2 years of previous experience working with children ages 1-12. 

PREFERED LEVEL QUALIFICATIONS:

1. A certificate in DEI or extensive training and work experience.

2. Must have 5+ years of gymnastics or related coaching or teaching experience. 

3. Must have knowledge of proper use of gymnastics equipment. 

4. Ability to lift equipment and spot children at the Diamond level.
