Grossing Technologist Lead

Grossing Technologist Lead Job Responsibilities:

• Oversees and assists team members in assigned functional area, which may include but not limited to, ensuring team is meeting key-deliverables and quality standards, addressing and resolving challenges, managing and tracking performance, and assisting in time management and scheduling; escalates issues to senior leaders as needed. 
• Oversees and assists the team’s grossing, dissection and dictating of surgical specimens using a variety of laboratory materials, chemicals and equipment, according to hospital policies and procedures; This may include specimen photography, specimen radiography and automated cassette printing system. 
• Leads the team in receiving specimens from couriers, ensuring accuracy in manifests to verify appropriate count, reviewing and maintaining specimen integrity and patient identification; when courier services is not available, facilitates specimen pick-up across Inova OR’s and clinics. 
• Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of Grossing Technologist skill requirements, hospital Laboratory Information System (LIS), ensuring all specimens are received accurately, knowledge of printing and adding cassettes, and preparing specimens for transportation to other laboratories. 
• Ensures specimen integrity upon arrival and throughout the entire anatomic pathology workflow process. 
• Orients, trains, develops and supervises across different care sites at Inova, ensuring standardization in laboratory procedures. 
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

• Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory science obtained from an accredited institution, OR Education/training equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree that includes at least (90) semester hours or equivalent from an accredited institution. This education must include at least (30) semester hours of coursework in science or medical laboratory technology, which must include (6) semester hours of chemistry, (6) semester hours of biology, and (18) additional semester hours in any combination of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination.
• Years of Experience: 3 years of progressive clinical experience as practicing Grossing Technologist
