SUMMARY
This position is accountable for assisting the Gift Shop Manager with the daily operations of the gift shop, all special projects, holiday packaging and patient call-in orders. The incumbent also supervises all voluntary support, covers all aspects of daily stores’ operation in the Manager’s absence and, under the direction of the Manager, reworks displays, prepares monthly inventories and participates in the annual inventory process.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
• Open or close the shop on a rotation basis, which includes balancing the register, daily tally, reviewing and resetting the security system and backing up the stand-alone networked computer system to disk.
• Supervises and schedules all voluntary support.
• Trains volunteers on the computer register, proper store procedures, shoplifting awareness and appropriate responses, cash handling, gift wrapping and pricing new shipments of products.
• Process personal check approvals, credit card transactions and daily settlements.
• Maintains a structured, clean environment, which involves cleaning shelves, vacuuming, and organizing merchandise, prepares trash for removal.
• Create a friendly, customer-centered environment, exhibiting sensitivity towards patients and their families and responding quickly to meet their specific needs.
• Promote sales by performing product demonstrations.
• Rework and restock merchandise and alert the Manager of faster than usual sales of specific items.
• Schedules all guest vendors (one day), maintains contact throughout the day to ensure compliance with established guidelines, keeps accurate records of product sales and Auxiliary proceeds from each visit.
• Prepares notification to staff pending guest vendor visits through e-mail and handouts.
• Maintain contact with other Connecticut Hospital auxiliaries to be informed of best choice of guest vendors.
• Oversees the entire operation of the Guest V VP contracts
• Introduces, schedules and settles receipts with participants.
• Demonstrates support for the mission, values and goals of the organization through Core behaviors that are
consistent with the CT Children's Standards.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Education Required: High school graduate with a minimum of 3 years retail experience required.
Experience Required: Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
KNOWLEDGE OF :
• Computer Skills and familiarity with retail programs.
SKILLS:
• Customer service, visual merchandising skills.
