About the role

Job Summary:

This position provides exposure to work within an interdisciplinary project team comprised of electrical, mechanical and chemical engineers, environmental, health and safety professionals, and plant operations and maintenance personnel.  This internship offers hands-on experience in a dynamic energy production environment, supporting the operation, maintenance, and optimization of electrical systems critical to power generation, including generators, transformers, circuit breakers, switchyards, relaying and protection schemes, etc.

 The successful candidate will provide technical support, using analytical skills and engineering principles, to various tasks in support of maintaining essential plant functions and planning of future plant upgrade projects.

  • Support existing plants critical reliability knowledge management
  • Participate in electrical troubleshooting, root cause analysis, capital spare specification
  • Analyze data and provide electrical equipment health insights
  • Work closely with generation leadership
  • Experience firsthand state-of-the-art generation and distribution technologies

Perfect for a 3rd-year Electrical Engineering student with strong organizational and communication skills.

Essential Job Functions:               

  • Support existing plant critical reliability knowledge management
  • Participate in electrical troubleshooting and root cause analysis
  • Support capital equipment specification and manufacturing review
  • Analyze data and provide electrical equipment health insights
  • Work closely with generation leadership
  • Learn state of the art generation and distribution technologies
  • Travel to existing Tenaska plants to gather data and implement projects

Basic Requirements:

  • Strong technical and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Preferably a 3rd year Electrical Engineering student; other engineering disciplines will be considered.
