Description

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly capable and product-driven GCS Systems Manager to lead the design and development of our Ground Control Station (GCS) software, with a focus on Teal Settings, user interface and experience (UI/UX), and Android application development. This role sits at the intersection of mission-critical usability and technical execution—managing the frontend user experience that enables pilots and operators to control drones with precision, safety, and confidence.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Team & Technical Leadership
    • Lead and manage a team of Android and UI/UX software engineers building and maintaining GCS applications for UAV platforms.
    • Own the roadmap, architecture, and feature set for Teal Settings and related configuration tools.
    • Translate customer feedback, flight operations needs, and hardware capabilities into intuitive, responsive user experiences.
  • UI/UX Design & Implementation
    • Oversee the design and implementation of modern, operator-friendly interfaces that support:
    • Real-time telemetry
    • Flight controls and camera views
    • System health monitoring
    • Teal Settings customization and configuration workflows
    • Work closely with designers to ensure consistency, responsiveness, and mission-centric UX patterns across GCS apps.
  • Android Development
    • Manage the development of native Android apps that serve as primary control stations for Teal drone platforms.
    • Oversee integration with hardware controllers, video feeds, mission planners, and OTA configuration tools.
    • Ensure smooth performance, stability, and compliance with Android system services and hardware abstraction layers.
  • Settings & Config Systems
    • Define and manage Teal Settings architecture for configuring flight modes, radio settings, payload options, and system preferences.
    • Ensure backward compatibility and robust error handling across firmware versions and drone SKUs.
    • Coordinate with embedded teams to align app-based settings with onboard behavior.
  • Integration & Testing
    • Own release cycles, CI/CD pipelines, and QA coordination for all GCS software builds.
    • Conduct hands-on integration with flight hardware and support live testing, operator feedback loops, and rapid iteration.
    • Implement telemetry logging, crash reporting, and analytics for performance monitoring.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in mobile application development, with a strong focus on Android (Kotlin/Java).
  • 2+ years in a technical leadership or managerial role overseeing software development teams.
  • Proven experience with modern UI/UX frameworks and best practices (Jetpack Compose, MVVM, Material Design).
  • Strong understanding of GCS applications, mission control software, or UAV operator workflows.
  • Familiarity with telemetry protocols, MAVLink, RTSP video integration, or Android-native video handling.

Additional Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with drone, robotics, or aviation ground control interfaces.
  • Familiarity with embedded/firmware systems and settings sync across hardware/software boundaries.
  • Understanding of DoD/enterprise compliance requirements for mobile and field-deployed applications.
  • Exposure to Kotlin Multiplatform Mobile (KMM), Jetpack Compose, or WebView/React integrations in Android.
