    • Schedule: Monday through Sunday (as scheduled)

  • Requirements:
    • Authorization to work in the U.S. permanently, without sponsorship.
    • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
    • Current ServSafe Food Handler Certificate or Food Handler Certification from an ANAB-accredited or ANSI-approved program prior to beginning employment.
    • Ability to perform physically demanding food service duties in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Previous experience with the VA is a plus

What does a typical day look like for the Food Service Workers?

You will:

  • Monday through Sunday (as scheduled).
  • Operate commercial dishwashing equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Scrape, rinse, soak, scour, and clean cookware, trays, utensils, pots, and pans.
  • Sort, stack, rack, and process dishware through commercial dish machines.
  • Wash and sanitize pots and pans using a three-compartment sink.
  • Properly clean, sanitize, and store dishes, utensils, cookware, and kitchen equipment.
  • Maintain cleanliness of food preparation and service areas.
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment following infection prevention procedures.
  • Sweep, mop, and maintain assigned kitchen and food service areas.
  • Separate food waste, trash, compost, and recyclables into designated disposal containers.
  • Empty waste containers and transport refuse to designated outdoor collection areas.
  • Clean patient meal carts manually or using commercial cart washing equipment.
  • Retrieve soiled meal carts from inpatient units and deliver clean carts to designated locations.
  • Assist with food service operations as directed by Nutrition and Food Service supervisors.
  • Maintain proper food handling and sanitation practices at all times.
  • Follow all infection prevention, safety, and environmental health procedures.
  • Interact professionally and courteously with Veterans, visitors, healthcare staff, and coworkers.
  • Maintain compliance with all VA policies, OSHA requirements, food safety standards, and local health regulations.

What qualifications do you look for?

If selected, candidates will need to complete credentialing and onboarding requirements consistent with VA medical staff processes. This includes Fingerprint-based Background Investigation, Employment Reference Verification, VA Security Screening and Identity Verification.
