About the role

Occupational Summary:

This position will provide support to the Financial Reporting department in the preparation and analysis of monthly GAAP statements for the University as well as during the annual external audit process. 

 

Specific responsibilities include:

 

Perform financial analysis on a monthly basis supporting the Financial Reporting function.

 

Provide support in the monthly monitoring and analysis of activity in the University’s general ledger accounts. This can include:

  • Assist in the monthly analysis of significant changes in general ledger accounts at a detail trial balance level.
  • Assist in the coordination and preparation of monthly reconciliations for international cash accounts.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries and supporting documentation for international activities
  • Prepare monthly journal entries and supporting documentation for various corporate adjustments
  • Assist in the daily monitoring and approval of journal entries made to the University’s general ledger (JV workflow). Assist in the daily approval of electronic check requests made through the Duke@Work portal.

 

Provide support in the preparation and analysis of monthly GAAP financial statements for the University, and bi-annual reporting for the Schools of Medicine and Nursing.

 

Provide support in the annual audit process of the consolidated financial statements of Duke University, as directed. This can include work on trial balances, adjusting entries, memos, and other work papers in support of the University’s corporate and other GAAP financial statements and footnote disclosures as well as providing support to the University’s external auditors.

 

Provide support for other required audits of Duke University, which include the retirement plans, Single Audit, and NCAA agreed upon procedures report.

 

Provide support creating the annual audited financial statements and footnotes, working with a graphic designer to create and edit the final product.

 

Manage the Provided by Client (PBC) listing for the auditors. Ensure the responsible parties provide items correctly and on-time to the auditors.

Education/Training:  

Work requires a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field.  CPA is desirable, but not required.

 

Experience:

Work requires four or more years of experience in accounting or business and financial management; SAP experience preferred, but not required.

 

Skills:

Organizational, analytical and creative problem-solving skills are essential; Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments with minimal direction; Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to effectively interact with a broad range of University and Health System personnel; Strong business writing skills; Advanced excel skills, including experience including pivot tables and vlookups.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

 

Education

Work requires a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration or a related field. CPA is desirable.

 

Experience

 

Work requires three years
