Job Description

THE SELECTED CANDIDATES WILL BE OFFERED A SALARY OF $19.00 PER HOUR.

The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services and community supports. ACS manages community-based supports and foster care services and provides subsidized childcare vouchers. ACS child protection staff respond to allegations of child maltreatment. In juvenile justice, ACS oversees detention, placement, and programs for youth in the community.

ACS’ Division of Financial Services (DFS) is responsible for supporting, planning, implementing, and monitoring the fiscal functions of the agency in accordance with City, State and Federal guidelines. Within DFS, the Central Eligibility Office (CEO) unit is responsible for determining federal funding eligibility for all children entering foster care and Close-To-Home or Non-Secure Placement and generates about $170M in federal revenue annually. DFS is looking for two highly motivated and detail-oriented Financial Eligibility Undergraduate Interns to join our team.

As a Financial Eligibility Intern, you will support our team in day-to-day operations and contribute to long-term projects aimed at improving our recordkeeping and tracking systems as well as assisting with tightening up our unit procedures. This internship offers an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to various aspects of ACS Financial Services and learn the ins and outs of accessing federal funding for child welfare services.

Key Responsibilities:

- Assist with tracking receipt of legal documents, and consolidating electronic files

- Support Executive Director with development of standard operating procedures

- Help conduct eligibility reviews and quality control reviews of foster homes

- Collect and analyze quantitative data and employ statistical techniques to produce data-informed summaries to assist with decision-making

- Track milestone expectations to meet program and unit objectives

Learning Outcomes:

- Gain comprehensive knowledge of the ACS foster care system

- Learn how to develop standard operating procedures and conduct data analysis in a professional setting

- Develop skills in collaborating across teams towards desired outcomes


ADDITONAL INFORMATION:

Section 424-A of the New York Social Services Law requires an authorized agency to inquire whether a candidate for employment with child-caring responsibilities has been the subject of a child abuse and maltreatment report.

Qualifications

As of June of the Program year the prospective interne must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year).
NOTE: Appointment to this title is only valid for the duration of the Program, June - August each year.
