About the role

The Field Technician reports to the Field Services Manager in Hillside, NJ. This role includes collecting water samples to be returned to the laboratory for prompt analysis. Responsibilities include driving to and from sampling locations, (company car provided) and performing water testing at the location. Water tests include municipal wells, city water, private homes, public locations, wastewater sampling, and pool testing. Field Technicians perform water sample pickups at water departments and sewer treatment plants. Further sampling includes setting up sample composite machines and picking them up the following day. This role requires a high level of attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to work independently in diverse field environments. 



Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collect water samples from various sources, including pools, rivers, docks, and lakes, according to established sampling protocols and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform basic field analyses, such as a pH and free chlorine test, using appropriate field equipment.
  • Properly label and preserve samples according to established laboratory procedures.
  • Maintain accurate and complete sampling records, including chain-of-custody documentation.
  • Prepare and maintain sampling equipment and supplies.
  • Follow all safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) while in the field.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, and supervisors regarding sampling schedules and any issues encountered.
  • Assist with data entry and other laboratory tasks as needed.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • Travel to various locations within the service area.

  • Proficiency in using GPS devices, handheld computers, and other field equipment.


Qualifications:

  • Must have a valid driver's license. 
  • Must have a clean driving record. 
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate's Degree in Environmental Science, Biology, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience in a sample collection is preferred, but not required.
