We are seeking a Research Technician to join our team at the Memphis Cotton Breeding organization. In this role, you will play a crucial part in supporting the yield/phenotyping organization by assisting the Testing Manager and team in the advancement and development of commercial varieties. Your responsibilities will include managing field activities, capturing field data, and maintaining field records. Knowledge of field agronomic practices and operating field equipment will be essential, as well as involvement in UAV data collection and data transfer. Additionally, you will contribute to the development and implementation of a yield testing program, including capturing environmental data and phenotype data, and defining experimental designs to support informed breeding models and a strong go-to-market strategy.

As a Field Research Technician, You Create Chemistry By...

• Assisting in the development and selection of varieties that meet business-defined product profiles for the Mid-South testing organization. 
• Helping to create a phenotyping and yield trial program that supports commercial decisions and provides data to the MS breeder. 
• Leading the yield trial ginning activities, including the management of contingent staff involved in the activity. 
• Providing support to the site teams, including farm and equipment operations, and overseeing contingent workers. 
• Taking the lead in implementing process improvements in responsible areas, aiming to achieve more with less time and resources, and generating optimal procedures and actions that align with team and business needs. 
• Aligning and tracking resources, people, and work objectives to stretch goals and create value and future growth. 
• Ensuring successful outcomes and timelines by consistently following guidelines, rules, standards, and compliance. 
• Monitoring, tracking, and maintaining desired outcomes and objectives while preparing for future challenges.

If you...

 

• Possess a Bachelor’s Degree or High School Diploma/GED with 2+ years of experience required
• Have relevant experience in crop yield trialing and crop management.
• Have 1+ years in Seed Industry and cotton yield trialing.
• Have small plot research in relevant crop area and knowledge of production practices of cotton.
• Have the ability to develop strong computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Bartender, FieldPrime, iQarus.
• Have experience working with database systems is a plus.
• A high degree of self-motivation and organizational skills, with a process driven mindset.
• Possess a Drone pilots license or willingness to get a drone license immediately.
• Possess a Pesticide Applicator License preferred.
• Ability to travel up to 20% overnight, with regular day travel.
