Field Ops Spec III – Pavement Condition / Engineering And Operations / Bureau Of Materials And Research / State Materials Office / Pavement Materials
This position supports pavement performance monitoring by collecting, analyzing, and reporting pavement condition data across the State Highway System with a focus on data quality assurance. The information produced informs roadway needs, forecasts rehabilitation, and guides budget decisions, helping to ensure Florida’s roadways remain safe, reliable, and well-maintained for the traveling public.

Your Specific Responsibilities:
Operates the pavement profile measuring vehicle on a statewide basis and conducts the annual field pavement condition surveys to assess the condition and serviceability of assigned segments of the State roadway system in accordance with the current procedures and standards. Performs the field evaluation of public road sections as directed to satisfy the requirements of the Federal Highway Performance Monitoring System (HPMS). Determines the condition and serviceability level of pavement surfaces and performs the physical measurements of distress, when applicable. During field testing, uses the interactive referencing and visualization tools such as Global Positioning System (GPS), Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to identify pavement sections of interest based on their location characteristics, retrieve their performance history, and visualize multiple-year pavement condition data to assure reasonableness and completeness of all data collected. Retrieves, processes, and analyses the pavement condition survey data to determine if all applicable data are accurate, then reports and uploads the data to the Department’s database system, as directed.
