Corteva Agriscience has an exciting opportunity for a Field Experimentation Small Plot Researcher / Senior Research Associate to join our Field Experimentation, Johnston Iowa team.

As a Field Experimentation Small Plot Researcher / Senior Research Associate, you will plan and execute the safe and efficient day-to-day management of multi crop and diverse trial types at the Johnston, IA Research Center. You will be involved in all phases of planting, growing, phenotyping, and harvesting research experiments to meet project advancement and data quality goals. You will adopt and implement evolving technologies and methodologies that enhance and improve product development.

Farming Solutions & Digital (FS&D) is focused on integrating digital tools into research and development (Seed, Crop Health, Biologicals) and developing farmer-facing digital insights with Corteva products.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead execution of small plot research plan at Johnston Iowa research farm, along with 2 outlying locations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to understand and communicate project goals.
  • Preparation as needed, such as mapping, soil sampling, agronomic data collection, etc.  
  • Discuss protocol and ensure proper execution by Field Experimentation and R&D staff.
  • In-season timely collection of data. 
  • Capable of self-directed plan of work to execute needed deliverables.
  • Ability to deploy field sensors and troubleshoot issues as they arise.
  • Operate and calibrate research equipment, including planters, sprayers, and UAV.
  • Update and management of real-time data dashboards to ensure timely and quality data collection.
  • Weekly, monthly, and period-based project summaries. 
  • Provide guidance and direction to team members and collaborators, promoting a culture of excellence and adherence to established protocols.
  • Complete datasets delivered to project lead at agreed-upon date.
  • Creating, updating, and living by safe working standards and best practices.
  • Presentations and demonstrations as requested. 

 What Skills You Need:

  • BS/MS (BS req’d), consider degrees in entomology, agronomy, soil science, biology, ecology, digital agronomy, precision agriculture, data science.  
  • 2-5 years prior experience working in a small plot research setting;  
  • Strong interpersonal skills; 
  • Attention to detail and good organizational skills; 
  • Naturally curious and a critical thinker.
  • Self-motivation and the ability to initiate projects, improvements, decisions, and team collaboration.
  • Team player who can work in a multifunction research center and across crops and assigned projects.
  • Knowledge of agronomy, crop production, plant development, and experimental field plot design.
  • Ability to work independently while setting high expectations.
  • Possess a US Drivers License.
  • Ability to travel, with ~15-20% in-season possible (vehicle provided). 
  • Ability to obtain a CMV license to haul trailers.
  • Possess a commercial pesticide license or the ability to obtain one.
  • Competent in standard Microsoft Office programs, and the ability to learn internal Corteva Agriscience software.
  • Capable of working in varying ergonomic and environmental conditions for extended periods of time, with the ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Flexibility to work extended days at critical times of the season. Overnight stays during planting and harvesting may be required.

This positions is hybrid 3 days in office 2 days remote.
