The Field Electrician is responsible for the installation and maintenance of solar panel systems on residential properties. This role is critical in helping homeowners transition to renewable energy sources and reduce their carbon footprint. This role brings a technical expertise and commitment to quality workmanship to ensure solar panels and batteries are installed properly and designed to last.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform site assessments to determine the feasibility of installing a solar panel system. Evaluate factors such as angle and orientation of the roof, available sunlight, and any potential shading issues
  • Install solar panel systems primarily on the roof (secondarily on the ground) of residential properties, to include mounting panels, installing electrical components, and connect the system to the home’s electrical grid
  • Perform routine maintenance checks on the solar panel system to ensure it’s operating efficiently. Perform any necessary repairs or upgrades to the system as required
  • Work closely with the customer to address any concerns or questions that may arise about the solar panel system or battery. Provide guidance on how to monitor and maintain the system to ensure it continues to operate effectively.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of electrical experience required
  • Minimum of RW license
  • Deep understanding of electrical systems, including wiring, circuits, and electrical components
  • Experience with electrical work involving wiring up to 600 VDC and 480 VAC
  • Solid understanding of safety regulation and procedures
  • Solid understanding of solar energy systems, including solar panels, inverters, and batteries
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and repair systems as necessary
  • Skilled in using hand and power tools, as well as specialized testing equipment to install, maintain and repair solar energy systems
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts in a clear and concise manner
  • Problem solving skills a must
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure panels and batteries are installed correctly, as well as the ability to identify potential problems before they become serious issues
  • Ability to climb ladders, work on roofs in sometimes extreme temperature and conditions
