Field Ecologist - Assistant Professor

The Department of Biological Sciences at Cedar Crest College seeks a full-time, animal-focused Field Ecologist. The successful candidate will teach in our undergraduate programs in Biology, which include Environmental Conservation B.S. and B.A. majors, and will regularly teach students from across the College’s other arts and sciences and preprofessional majors. The position begins in Fall 2025 and is renewable (non-tenure track). The Department is fully committed to assembling a diverse faculty team with a global perspective, focused on creating an inclusive and transformative learning environment, including a robust research program.  

Ideally, candidates should have teaching and research interests focused on field ecology and be committed to including undergraduates in their research program.  Teaching responsibilities will include contributing to the departmental core curriculum and offering electives in areas of expertise that complement the existing course offerings for majors and as part of our liberal arts curriculum and other programs.  Suggested areas of focus could include marine biology, animal behavior, conservation biology, and other courses focused on animals.  Local opportunities for collaboration include the Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, Lehigh Valley Zoo, and Wildlands Conservancy. 

Primary responsibilities of the position include: 

• Teaching in-person undergraduate courses; 

• Maintaining an active research program including undergraduates; and 

• Engaging in departmental, College, and professional service.

Qualifications

We seek to recruit a candidate with the following minimum educational qualifications: 

• Ph.D. or equivalent degree; 

• Experience teaching in an academic setting; and 

• A commitment to supporting the College’s mission.
