Pay Range
$117,180 - $148,608 Annually for the SES.1 level
This is the lowest to highest salary in good faith we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. Pay will not be below any applicable local minimum wage. An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
Job Description
We have an opening for a Junior Software Engineer. You will be a member of the Cloud Integration and Applications team. You'll learn to design, develop, and support cloud-based applications and AI integrations that serve the laboratory. Under guidance from senior team members, you'll contribute to both frontend and backend development for applications that help with governance, security, and effective use of cloud and AI services across the enterprise. Your work will support the workforce in securely and efficiently adopting modern technologies. This position is in the Information Technology Solutions (ITS) Division within the Computing Directorate, in support of LivIT.
This position offers a hybrid schedule, blending in-person and virtual presence. You will have the flexibility to work from home one or more days per week.
You will
- Provide computer science and software development support using industry standard software development practices and modern programming languages and operating systems.
- Develop and maintain applications managed by the team. Support the full software development lifecycle including writing code, testing, debugging and documentation.
- Engage with other developers and administrators to understand requirements, provide feedback and deliver high-quality solutions.
- Learn and apply best practices. Continuously learn new technologies and methods that can improve the team’s code quality and development processes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with at least one modern programming language (e.g., Python, JavaScript, C#, Java) in coursework or project settings.
- Basic knowledge of software development concepts, such as design, coding, and testing.
- Familiarity with AWS and modern application architectures using serverless implementations with least privileged IAM roles
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools like Azure DevOps
- Knowledge of backend and frontend development using frameworks like .NET and Angular
- Sufficient written and verbal communication skills; ability to prepare basic technical documentation.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and adapt to evolving project requirements.
Qualifications We Desire
- Experience with AWS WorkSpaces and AWS API for orchestrating and managing virtual desktop fleet.
- Exposure to designing or supporting secure, scalable systems.
- Demonstrated initiative in learning new technologies or contributing to team-based projects.
