Job Summary:

JOB SUMMARY:

The Hospital School Teacher provides hospital based instruction and plans, develops and implements instructional programs and activities. Provides coordination of homebound school services for inpatients with local schools, health care providers and families to promote the development of each child.

  • Provides school education with hospitalized children, support families with educational needs and coordination with schools and school districts.

  • Special Education Certification (STRONGLY PREFERRED)


SHIFT / SCHEDULE:

  • Fulltime | 32 hours per week | 4x8s (M-Th) | Typical Business hours: 8:00am – 4:30pm (may vary during the summer)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Establishes goals and objectives in order to provide effective program implementation and education for patients, families and staff

  • Delivers efficient service including referral to appropriate resources, effective intervention, and coordination with healthcare team

  • Uses evaluation to improve services, including synthesis of information and adaptation of methods and approaches

  • Effectively communicates and coordinates appropriate homebound services for hospitalized children and youth based upon patient/family needs and school resources.

  • Coordinates, trains, and supervises volunteers, students, and adjunct teachers.

  • Contributes to the organization by actively participating in process improvement initiatives and shared decision making.

  • Academic Instruction (Intermediate): Demonstrates mastery of academic instruction in practical applications of a difficult nature. Possesses sufficient knowledge, training, and experience to be capable of successfully delivering academic instruction services without requiring support and instruction from others. Able to train and educate by setting the example, giving technical instruction, providing leadership, and generally raising the level of performance of others while on the job.

  • Human Growth & Development (Intermediate): Demonstrates mastery of human growth and development in practical applications of a difficult nature. Possesses sufficient knowledge, training, and experience to be capable of successfully delivering human growth and development services without requiring support and instruction from others. Able to train and educate by setting the example, giving technical instruction, providing leadership, and generally raising the level of performance of others while on the job.

  • School Coordination (Intermediate): Demonstrates mastery of school coordination in practical applications of a difficult nature. Possesses sufficient knowledge, training, and experience to be capable of successfully delivering coordination services without requiring support and instruction from others. Able to train and educate by setting the example, giving technical instruction, providing leadership, and generally raising the level of performance of others while on the job.

  • Curriculum Development (Intermediate): Demonstrates mastery of curriculum development in practical applications of a difficult nature. Possesses sufficient knowledge, training, and experience to be capable of successfully delivering curriculum development services without requiring support and instruction from others. Able to train and educate by setting the example, giving technical instruction, providing leadership, and generally raising the level of performance of others while on the job.
