Senior Process Engineer, Inventory Management System
Kairos PowerAbout the role
Company Overview
Kairos Power is a new nuclear energy technology and engineering company whose mission is to enable the world’s transition to clean energy, with the ultimate goal to dramatically improve people’s quality of life while protecting the environment. This goal will be accomplished through the commercialization of the fluoride-salt-cooled, high-temperature reactor (FHR) that can be deployed with robust safety, affordable costs, and flexible operation to accommodate the expansion of variable renewables.
Job Summary
The Inventory Management System (IMS) team is seeking a highly motivated and passionate Senior Process Design Engineer with expertise relevant to design, construction, and commissioning of industrial scale high-temperature process skids for molten salt systems.
The successful candidate will lead and coordinate detailed IMS system design, including vessels and piping, instrumentation/sensor interfaces, and system structures. The position requires a strong aptitude for engineering analysis, systems integration, industrial or pilot scale system deployment. You will be expected to regularly interface with multi-disciplinary teams including pipe stress analysis, ASME pressure vessel design, process design, reliability, IC&E engineering, and manufacturing. In this role, you will work closely to the IMS Lead Engineer and will be will be a critical member of the design team for Hermes, Kairos Power's first low-power demonstration reactor.
Responsibilities
- Support IMS Responsible Engineer to design high temperature piping loops, vessels, heaters and instruments to manage the Hermes Flibe coolant inventory.
- Perform engineering calculations such as hydraulic and thermal analysis to support defining design parameters such as pipe size, minimum pump head, pressures and flowrates of molten salt, heat input and insulation requirements, hydraulic losses in a pipe loop, etc.
- Design and build testing platforms, including high temperature platforms, for the exploration of design features that require maturation.
- Document calculations and design decisions in concise, clear technical memorandums to be used in internal recordkeeping and/or reactor licensing applications.
- Review and redline P&IDs and PFDs to appropriately represent system design.
- Develop and document system design, modes of operation, required controls and interlocks, and maintenance plans for full plant life cycle.
- Interface with Mechanical Design, Structural, Instrumentation & Controls, Operations, and other Process Design Engineers to ensure designs meet plant needs.
- Create or direct the creation of manufacturing drawings for KP-FHR custom Flibe inventory management equipment, and coordinate the fabrication with internal manufacturing operation and suppliers.
