If you are an experienced Engineering professional looking for an opportunity to grow, Copeland has an exciting opportunity for you! Based in our Sidney, OH location, you will be expected to execute fast-paced, time sensitive projects while building the organization’s subject matter expertise in Copeland’s oil-free centrifugal compression technology. This position will support the development, evaluation, and maturation of oil-free centrifugal compressors to improve efficiency, cost, and reliability.
As a Project Engineer, You Will:
Execute fast-paced, time sensitive projects while building the organizations' subject matter expertise in rotordynamics
Apply rotordynamic expertise to carry out design of experiment and validation of centrifugal compressor components such as rotors, bearings, and seals
Conduct testing of centrifugal compressors to troubleshoot/diagnose vibration problems
Lead and guide mechanical testing of newly designed bearings, seals, and rotors on component & product test rigs
Provide support on balancing rotor components and rotor assembly
Generate technical specifications for rotordynamic design and testing of centrifugal compressors
Clearly and precisely communicate, both written and verbally
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
Bachelors of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or Engineering Mechanics
5 years’ experience as a Mechanical Engineer defining bearing applications, and/or working with oil-free centrifugal compressors, designing, experimenting and validating of centrifugal compressor components
Minimum 3 years experience in testing, data acquisition, and processing test data for troubleshooting
Ability to develop new technology and strong hands-on skills
Good understanding of GD&T and tolerances
Capable of utilizing engineering knowledge to lead cross-functional efforts in technical problem solving with minimum supervision
Ability to work well with others in a team environment and on site support
PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
7 years of relevant experience as a Mechanical Engineer defining bearing applications, working with oil-free centrifugal compressors, designing, experimenting and validating of centrifugal compressor components
Experience in rotodynamic design and analysis of oil-free machinery
Troubleshooting of vibration / dynamic issues of rotors and supported by hydro-dynamic fluid film bearings such as foil bearings or spiral groove bearings
Familiarity oil-free centrifugal compressors and/or high speed motor control
Prior HVAC/R experience
Previous experience developing and integrating products for HVAC/R applications
Prior proven success in cross functional collaboration with internal and external stakeholders
