What’s the role?
Sr. Field Service Engineer is responsible for the installation, preventative maintenance and general upkeep of leading-edge semiconductor manufacturing systems that produce photomask aerial images (AIMS) 193nm (DUV). This position is field based in Santa Clara, CA.

Here’s what you’ll do:
Equipment Troubleshooting and Maintenance:
Follow recommended safety rules and protocols for ZEISS and customer equipment.
Troubleshoot complex optical mask-making equipment, specifically the AIMS® systems.
Align extremely sensitive optical components with nanometer precision in dimensions or seconds in angles.
Perform intricate repairs on AIMS® systems, which integrate automated mechanical components, electronics, controllers, and sophisticated optics controlled by software.
Maintain and replace advanced laser systems and conduct optical alignment.
Apply specific training in safety protocols for using personal protective equipment and laser alignment tools.
Ensure contracted equipment uptime performance is achieved.
Schedule and perform all recommended Preventative Maintenance activities.
Communication and Reporting:
Actively participate in meetings with ZEISS and customer teams.
Document system actions, events, and daily activities in detailed field service reports.
Communicate system and site issues to factory-level support and ensure timely resolution of customer concerns.
Customer Relations:
Foster strong teamwork and maintain excellent customer relationships.
Provide proactive communication and support to customers.
Do you qualify?
A technical degree (e.g., Bachelor of Engineering or Science) is required, or alternatively, over 10 years of relevant experience can serve as a substitute.
5+ years of experience as a field-based service engineer, preferably in the semiconductor industry supporting complex optical equipment.
Excellent troubleshooting skills.
Ability to read and understand technical drawings, circuit diagrams, and other technical documentation.
Experience with FAB cleanroom protocols.
Preferred experience with mask-making equipment
Working Conditions and Special Demands:
Ability to lift 50lbs; ability to stand for long periods; ability to stoop, squat, kneel, twist and lay down in the course of equipment repair.
Ability to travel – including internationally. Anticipate after initial training that travel is <10%.
Ability to work long hours inside a semiconductor cleanroom (FAB). Requires following of all customer cleanroom protocols.
Position requires OT including weekends as required.
Position requires working with laser systems and potentially hazardous chemistries.
Position requires ability and dexterity to perform very complex system alignments and adjustments.
Compensation:
The annual pay range for this position is $100,000 – $125,000
The pay offered for this role may be influenced by factors such as job location, scope of role, qualifications, education, experience, & complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent.
This position is also eligible for a performance bonus or sales commissions. ZEISS also offers robust benefits, including medical plans, retirement savings plan and paid time off.
