About the Role
The Facilities & Maintenance Supervisor II is responsible for supervising & directing the Facilities & Maintenance (F&M) shop mechanics to support operations; ensuring the operation departments are provided fully functioning container handling equipment; providing containers and miscellaneous equipment in good and clean condition; controlling labor and material repair costs; and maintaining the safety, security, and morale of F&M personnel.
What you’ll do:
- Directs work assignments and supervises mechanics to ensure prompt service is provided to meet operating requirements and ensures compliance with established maintenance, repair, and quality control procedures. Evaluates mechanics knowledge and technical abilities to make work assignments.
- Communicates and coordinates manning and equipment requirements with operating departments. Strives to maintain a productive, efficient, and safe operation with particular attention to the established fiscal year operating plan goals.
- Responsible for mechanic check-in and making daily work assignments; approving timecards; performing audits; and maintaining a log of facilities & equipment maintenance operational requirements. Also responsible for generating work schedules that align to the company’s operations requirements, while ensuring compliance to company policy, house rules, and collective bargaining agreement (CBA).
- Understands and administers facilities & maintenance collective bargaining agreement. Acts independently to provide consistent, fair, and impartial disciplinary actions. Provides promotion recommendations in accordance with the CBA, and also adjudicates grievances and resolves disputes.
- Responsible for enforcement of the Stevedore Industry Committee Substance Abuse Policy Agreement.
- Continuously monitors the work area to ensure compliance with Company, State, and Federal regulations in order to maintain productivity, safety, security, and quality.
- Investigates incidents involving damage or injury and prepares accurate and informative accident reports to comply with safety and damage prevention programs.
- Understands and uses Company computer systems to ensure accurate information is obtained from and transferred to the databases for efficient equipment maintenance and cost control.
- Recommends changes to the parts inventory (e.g., container equipment, rolling stock, crane, etc.) to ensure repair and maintenance is executed in an optimal and efficient manner such that delays are minimized.
- Performs special assignments as directed by the F&M Manager.
- Offers suggestions to increase effectiveness of department.
