This job is within the American Airlines Federal Credit Union. The role is responsible for overseeing the design, architecture, implementation, and operational support of American Airlines Credit Union’s cloud environments. This role ensures that cloud-based infrastructure and applications are reliable, scalable, secure, and aligned with business objectives.
What you'll do
- Oversee the Cloud Engineering team, providing strategic direction and daily management of cloud infrastructure and services
- Lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of cloud architecture, ensuring compliance with industry best practices and security standards
- Manage cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) to optimize performance, cost, and security
- Collaborate with IT teams, business stakeholders, and security teams to ensure seamless cloud adoption and integration across the organization
- Define and enforce governance policies for cloud usage, security, and compliance, including risk management and regulatory compliance (e.g., FFIEC, PCI, NCUA guidelines)
- Lead cloud cost management initiatives, including budget oversight and optimization strategies
- Direct and manage cloud migrations, ensuring a smooth transition from on-premise to cloud-based solutions
- Oversee disaster recovery, business continuity, and cloud-based backup solutions
- Ensure high availability, performance, and security of cloud-based applications and infrastructure
- Maintain vendor relationships and manage cloud service contracts
- Provide mentoring and professional development opportunities for Cloud Engineers and other direct reports
- Stay current on emerging cloud technologies and trends to continuously improve the Credit Union’s cloud strategy
- Perform other duties as assigned
- The selected candidate will be responsible for ensuring the security and confidentiality of all account and related information that is part of their work and for ensuring that their work is in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to the Bank Secrecy Act.
All you'll need for success
Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
- High school diploma or GED
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
- Proven experience leading cloud engineering teams and managing enterprise-level cloud infrastructure
Hands-on expertise in cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud - Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible
- Strong background in networking, security, and automation within cloud environments
- Experience implementing cloud security best practices, including identity and access management (IAM), encryption, and compliance controls
- Experience managing cloud cost optimization and budget forecasting
Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
- Industry-recognized cloud certifications, such as:
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect (Associate or Professional)
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
- Google Professional Cloud Architect
- Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA)
- (ISC)² Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP)
- Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, AKS, EKS, GKE)
- Knowledge of hybrid cloud and multi-cloud strategies
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
Skills, Licenses & Certifications
- Proficient in cloud-native services including compute, storage, databases, networking, and security
- Skilled in Microsoft Office software (e.g., Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) gained through either work experience with the software or education and hands-on use of the software
- Strong understanding of cloud security frameworks and compliance requirements
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive cloud adoption across the organization
