As a Risk Manager at Enterprise Data Risk Management (EDRM), you will have a unique opportunity to shape organizational resilience by providing critical guidance, strategic advisory, and effective challenge to data management controls across the enterprise. This role is central to ensuring our most critical asset is well-governed and protected.

You will partner with stakeholders across every Line of Business, leveraging your strong analytical skills and ability to influence to navigate complex data challenges. The ideal candidate must be adept at working with ambiguity and imperfect information, focusing on the controls that truly enhance business resiliency. Your expertise will help steer critical conversations about data governance and risk, with the objective of creating relevant, actionable data management requirements for the enterprise.

This is a highly visible role that requires a blend of deep technical understanding of the data ecosystem, strategic thinking, and exceptional communication skills to ensure our EDRM policies are continuously aligned with the enterprise's top strategic initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Define and operationalize control requirements: Translate complex risks into clear, actionable control requirements, tailored to specific functional business needs

  • Evaluate and optimize control effectiveness: Assess and challenge business-implemented controls to ensure their efficacy and alignment with enterprise objectives

  • Proactively manage and mitigate risks: Identify, escalate, and propose well-defined remediation strategies for key risks and issues, addressing root causes comprehensively

  • Drive policy innovation and simplification: Continuously identify opportunities to strengthen and streamline Information and Data Management policies and the associated control frameworks.

  • Foster collaborative data governance: Partner with peers overseeing different business areas to harmonize data management practices, ensuring requirements are met consistently through shared data validations, clear success metrics, and transparent communication

  • Cultivate strategic stakeholder relationships: Build strong relationships across all levels of seniority to gather feedback, understand policy impact, and foster continuous improvement throughout the policy lifecycle

  • Champion data risk management strategy through compelling communication: Develop and execute impactful communication plans to articulate changes, initiatives

  • Lead strategic data management initiatives: Oversee the development and execution of critical data management projects aligned with EDRM's strategic objectives, defining priorities, influencing stakeholders, driving progress, and ensuring successful delivery

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or military experience

  • At least 6 years of experience in a data management or data governance role OR at least 4 years of first line risk control experience within a FinTech, Financial Services or Technology organization

  • At least 5 years of project management or consulting experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Business Management, Finance, Economics or Mathematics 

  • 3+ years of experience leading cross-functional teams

  • 7+ years of experience overseeing metadata management and data quality

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
