SCHIE delivers the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Skype, OneDrive and the Microsoft Azure platform globally with our server and data center infrastructure, security and compliance, operations, globalization, and manageability solutions.
Our focus is on smart growth, high efficiency, and delivering a trusted experience to customers and partners worldwide. As Microsoft's cloud business continues to grow the ability to deploy new offerings and hardware (HW) infrastructure on time, in high volume with high quality and lowest cost is of paramount importance.
To achieve this goal, we are looking for a Principal Thermal Engineer with a passion for developing robust customer-focused solutions and striving for engineering excellence in mechanical design of large complex systems. The Principal Thermal Engineer will provide technical leadership in the development and deployment of high reliability liquid cooling designs at scale.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will provide technical leadership for the design and development of complex liquid cooling solutions in the datacenter at the rack and server level. You will have responsibility and oversight for the thermal and mechanical implementation of fluid distribution systems within server racks encompassing all aspects of fluid flow and pressure management, cold plate design and reliability, pump design and reliability, material compatibility and corrosion resistance, and fluid/air volume management. You will utilize expertise in fluid systems design to deliver high performance liquid cooling with production level reliability.
As a technical leader within Azure’s Thermal Engineering team, you will contribute to the design of servers, racks, and associated datacenter building blocks. You will develop interface management for liquid systems and develop standards by which the team is able to scale our liquid cooled systems development in pace with the growth of AI. You will manage
relationships and interfaces with Microsoft’s datacenter engineering and operations teams to ensure smooth deployment of Azure systems. You will manage relationships with suppliers to ensure robust designs and predictive roadmaps of future technologies in support of Microsoft’s future product portfolio. You will also manage relationships with our ODM and SI partners to ensure proper development and implementation of our liquid cooled technologies.
You will be responsible for creating product specifications, interface control documents, and associated collateral to clearly communicate design intent and document design expectations. You will work across programs in a technical leadership role with responsibility for ensuring an integrated and robust approach to fluid systems design across our portfolio. You may also own specific programs for which you are the lead Thermal engineer developing a complete solution.
As a Principal Thermal Engineer, you will have the exciting responsibility for ensuring a reliable systems-focused approach to liquid cooling of Microsoft datacenters all over the planet.
